The SYNC Coaching Model

A whole-person approach to conscious change

Coaching is not only a conversation with the mind.

Real change touches the body, emotions, energy, beliefs, relationships, and the choices we make in everyday life. We may understand something intellectually and still find ourselves repeating the same reaction, avoiding the same conversation, or carrying the same pressure in a different form.

The SYNC Coaching Model is my integrative approach to coaching. It helps clients listen to the whole human system - body, energy, emotion, and mind - so insight can become lived change.

Rather than treating challenges as isolated problems to solve, SYNC explores how different parts of your inner and outer life are moving together. It supports you in noticing what is happening, meeting it with honesty, and choosing a more conscious response.

How SYNC works

SYNC brings attention to four interconnected dimensions:

Soma — the body and its signals
Yin & Yang
 — the movement of energy, tension, and balance
Neuroplasticity
 — emotional patterns and the capacity to change
Cognition
 — beliefs, assumptions, and ways of seeing

These dimensions are not separate boxes. They influence one another constantly.

A thought can tighten the body.
An emotion can shape a decision.
A pattern of over-responsibility can drain energy.
A belief can keep an old identity in place.

In coaching, we work with these connections so that change becomes more integrated, practical, and sustainable.

1. Soma

Listening to the body

The body often knows before the mind has words.

Stress, hesitation, excitement, fear, resistance, and truth can all appear through sensation: a knot in the shoulders, a shallow breath, a heaviness in the chest, a lift of energy, or a subtle sense of expansion.

In the Soma dimension, coaching helps you notice the body as a source of information, not something to override.

You may explore:

  • What sensations are present now?
  • Where do you feel pressure, contraction, movement, or ease?
  • What does your body reveal before your mind explains?
  • What changes when you pause and listen?
  • How might your body support a different choice?

This work helps you move from disconnection to embodied awareness.

2. Yin & Yang

Working with energy, tension, and balance

Many challenges contain opposing forces.

Action and rest.
Courage and caution.
Independence and belonging.
Ambition and tenderness.
Structure and freedom.
Speaking and listening.

In the Yin & Yang dimension, coaching helps you explore the tensions, polarities, and competing values inside a situation. Rather than forcing one side to win, we look for the movement between them.

You may explore:

  • What opposing qualities are active in this situation?
  • Where is there excess, depletion, or imbalance?
  • What part of you wants to move forward?
  • What part of you is asking for care or protection?
  • What would balance look like in practice?

This work helps you move from inner conflict to more conscious alignment.

3. Neuroplasticity

Working with emotional patterns

Emotional patterns are not fixed. They are shaped by experience, repetition, protection, and learning. The way we react under pressure often makes sense when we understand what it has been trying to protect.

In the Neuroplasticity dimension, coaching helps you recognise recurring emotional responses and practise new ways of meeting them.

You may explore:

  • What emotion is most present here?
  • What is this emotion trying to protect, express, or reveal?
  • What pattern does this feeling belong to?
  • What happens between the first feeling and the reaction that follows?
  • What new response could you practise, one small moment at a time?

This work helps you move from automatic reaction to emotional choice.

4. Cognition

Reframing beliefs and assumptions

The mind creates meaning quickly. It interprets, predicts, protects, and decides — often before we realise what belief is shaping the conclusion.

In the Cognition dimension, coaching helps you examine the assumptions, inner narratives, and thinking habits that influence your choices.

You may explore:

  • What belief is shaping this decision?
  • What story are you telling yourself about what is possible?
  • Where might this view be incomplete?
  • What else could be true?
  • What choice becomes available when the old assumption loosens?

This work helps you move from inherited thinking to conscious perspective.

What this means in coaching

Through the SYNC Coaching Model, we may work with:

  • Leadership pressure and decision fatigue
  • Inner criticism, self-doubt, or over-responsibility
  • People-pleasing, avoidance, control, or perfectionism
  • Career transition and identity shifts
  • Emotional regulation and embodied leadership
  • Purpose, direction, and aligned action
  • Relational dynamics and field awareness
  • The movement from insight into real behaviour

The aim is not to fix who you are.

The aim is to help more of you come into relationship - so your choices can come from a place of greater honesty, integration, and self-trust.

A more integrated way to grow

When body, energy, emotion, and mind begin to work together, change becomes less fragmented.

You do not have to force transformation from one part of yourself while another part resists in silence.

You learn to listen more fully.
You begin to recognise the pattern sooner.
You create room for a different response.
You move with more alignment between what you sense, feel, know, and choose.

That is the heart of SYNC: helping the whole human system participate in conscious change.
